The Almanac
Most people try to change their life in January. It is the coldest, darkest, most depleted month of the British year, which makes it close to the worst possible time to begin anything. It also explains a great deal about why resolutions fail.
The zodiac calendar offers a different rhythm. Twelve seasons of roughly a month each, every one with a different quality, running continuously whether you pay attention or not. Using it means asking a more useful question. Not simply what do I want, but what is this particular month actually good for?
How to Use an Almanac
Lightly. Nothing here is a rule, and none of it needs a ritual longer than a few minutes. The value is in the prompt rather than the practice.
Once a month, at the start of each season, write down one thing. That is the entire method. Twelve entries by the end of the year, and a record of what you were thinking about. This often turns out to be more useful than any individual intention.
Dates shift slightly from year to year, so each one below is approximate.
Spring
Aries Season
Around 21 March to 19 April
The astrological new year arrives with the spring equinox rather than in the middle of winter. Everything about this month favours starting.
Good for: beginning the thing you have been researching for months. Sending the email. Booking the first session.
Taurus Season
Around 20 April to 20 May
Slower, steadier and physical. This is the season associated with comfort, security and the pleasure of ordinary things.
Good for: money, home and habits. Anything that needs consistency rather than momentum.
Gemini Season
Around 21 May to 20 June
Quick, social and curious. Traditionally, this is the season of conversation and information rather than commitment.
Good for: networking, learning something small and saying yes to invitations.
Summer
Cancer Season
Around 21 June to 22 July
Cancer season begins at the summer solstice and turns attention inward, towards home and the people in it.
Good for: family, rest and repairing something personal that has been left too long.
Leo Season
Around 23 July to 22 August
The most visible month of the year. Confidence, warmth and generosity, with very little interest in modesty.
Good for: being seen. Launching, publishing and asking for the thing you have been circling.
Virgo Season
Around 23 August to 22 September
Practical and detailed, Virgo season arrives just as everything returns from summer. It may be the most underrated month in the calendar.
Good for: systems, health, admin and finishing the things Leo season started.
The value is in the prompt rather than the practice.
Autumn
Libra Season
Around 23 September to 22 October
Libra season opens with the autumn equinox, a day of exact balance. That sense of equilibrium shapes the whole month.
Good for: relationships, negotiation and fixing something that has become one sided.
Scorpio Season
Around 23 October to 21 November
The deep one. Traditionally associated with what is hidden, this is the season many people find emotionally heavier without quite knowing why.
Good for: honesty, ending things and looking directly at whatever you have been avoiding.
Sagittarius Season
Around 22 November to 21 December
Expansive and optimistic after the weight of Scorpio. This is a season shaped by travel, philosophy and the desire for more room.
Good for: planning next year, booking something far away and thinking bigger than is reasonable.
Winter
Capricorn Season
Around 22 December to 19 January
Capricorn season starts at the winter solstice, the longest night. It is serious, structural and concerned with the long term rather than the immediate.
Good for: career, discipline and setting one goal with an actual deadline attached.
Aquarius Season
Around 20 January to 18 February
Independent and forward looking. This is the season associated with community, ideas and doing things differently on purpose.
Good for: friendship, changing your mind publicly and leaving something that no longer fits.
Pisces Season
Around 19 February to 20 March
The final season before the cycle begins again. Soft and intuitive, Pisces season is traditionally a month for closing rather than opening.
Good for: rest, creative work, forgiveness and letting the year properly finish.
The Honest Part
None of this makes anything happen. A calendar cannot deliver an outcome, and any version of manifestation that promises otherwise is selling something.
What a rhythm like this does is far less dramatic and considerably more useful. It asks you to sit down twelve times a year and decide what you are focusing on, which most people otherwise do once, in January, badly.
Marking the Season
Some people change what they wear with the calendar, in the same way you might change what is on a bedside table. A protective piece for Scorpio season, something bolder for Leo, something quiet for Pisces.
It is not necessary, but it works for the same reason the writing works. A physical object attached to a decision makes that decision harder to forget.
Choose by the intention you want to return to through the season, or mark your place in the zodiac with one of the twelve Written In The Stars necklaces. For a short daily version of this practice, our I Am ritual guide takes under two minutes.

Twelve seasons. Twelve chances to begin. The next one is always close.
